Helping Others in Maryland and DC

pict1   For several years, Our House trainees partnered with Howard County, Maryland Aging-in-Place initiative with the goal of retrofitting the homes of senior citizens with wheelchair ramps, grab bars, and other items. This allowed many seniors to remain in their homes despite age or handicaps.  For their work, the trainees were the first youth group to earn Howard County's "Volunteer of the Year" award.

The trainees are involved in projects such as clearing and maintaining trails in the local parks as well as large clean-up projects.  Above, they participated in the project to clean-up the Anacostia River Watershed.

The trainees have received the Governor's Volunteer Award for their outstanding service to the people of Maryland.         Our trainees spent a week on the Eastern Shore  where they erected the trusses, installed the plywood, and shingled the roof on a home being constructed by Habitat for Humanity.
