Our Academic Program GED Prep & Remedial Classes

The academic segment of the program includes three stages:

Stage One - assess the trainee's educational potential for passing the GED exam.

Stage Two - the trainee and a teacher set realistic educational goals and formulate a personalized curriculum.

Stage Three - implement the trainee's curriculum with periodic evaluations to chart progress.

Our academic tutorial program has proven very effective. The trainees attend classes three nights per week that are taught and supervised by three teachers and several volunteers.  Our academic teachers all have the requisite degrees and experience.  There are  additional times set aside during the week for tutoring sessions, homework and reading hours.

In our academic program, we focus on improving the reading, writing and math skills of our trainees so that they are prepared to enter the workforce.         About one half of our trainees have the potential to pass the GED exam during their 12 to 15 months stay at Our House. almost 80% of those young men in this group have earned a Maryland High School Diploma.
