National Mentoring Month at the White House -- January 2010

The White House wanted a student from DC, MD & VA to represent his or her home state for National Mentoring Month. Our House was contacted to be the representative from Maryland.  Our trainee who was selected met President and Mrs. Obama at the reception.


Catalogue of Philanthropy -- Fall, 2004

Our House was one of 78 charities chosen to be in this guide to giving for the Greater Washington area.  The guide commented that: "Our House is widely recognized as one of the best programs for at-risk boys, anywhere.

Howard County "All America City" Competition -- June, 2001

Our House was one of three programs chosen by the county to attend this National Civic League competition in Atlanta, GA.  Our House played a significant role in the county being selected as an "All American County" winner.

The United States Congress -- March & May, 1999

Our House trainees testified in committee for the U.S. House of Representatives and before Congress on the Foster Care Independence Act of 1999 which provides funding to teens in transitional living programs who are aging out of foster care.



The United States Information Agency -- February, 1998

Our House was selected as a site to be visited by the director of a training center in Lebanon who wanted to tour a successful residential job training program here in the United States.


United States Department of State -- May, 1996

Our House was designated by the State Department as one of six youth programs in the United States to be visited and inspected by the director of an orphanage which is located in Moscow, Russia
